Robinson Wild was appointed to provide heritage advice for proposals affecting multiple designated heritage assets on a farm in North Weston, including the former Manor Farmhouse (grade II), outbuilding (grade II), Threshing Barn (grade II) and the Walled Garden (grade II*). The early eighteenth century Walled Garden forms a substantial component of the historic landscape and is included on the Historic England Heritage at Risk Register.
The project included a thorough analysis of the developmental history of both the Threshing Barn and the Walled Garden, drawing on historic mapping, documentary sources, and site analysis to understand their architectural, historic, and landscape value within the wider farmstead context.
With in-house landscape history expertise, the team was able to provide an integrated assessment of built and designed landscape heritage. This enabled a clear understanding of the significance of the Walled Garden as both a functional and ornamental space, and of the Threshing Barn as part of the agricultural evolution of the site.
Through early, collaborative engagement with the wider design team, Robinson Wild ensured that proposals were developed and informed by a robust understanding of significance and policy from the outset. The outcome was a policy-compliant proposal that balanced conservation priorities with the client’s long-term objectives for the site.
